Cappadocia

In April 2000, the professor of the History of Modern Hellenism in the Theological School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), Dr. Athanassios E. Karathanassis, scientific adviser of the Company, organizes a research- educational trip, for the students of his Faculty, in Cappadocia of Asia Minor. The theoretical study (research in libraries etc) had started several years before and in the beginning of 2000 the publication of the essay of the same professor, “Kappadokias Tychai” (Cappadocia’s Fate), takes place.

Among the researchers, there was the Colonel (Rtd) Ioannis L. Papakarmezis, who, totally impressed by this historical and enchanting land and in cooperation with Dr. Karathanassis, decides to proceed to the creation and production of a documentary with the same title, as the essay’s, “Kappadokias Tychai” (Cappadocia’s Fate), proceeding, in the same time, in a special photographing and topographic imprinting of Cappadocia’s monuments. In the 22nd- 24th of September 2000, during the Panhellenic Scientific Conference with the title “Cappadocia, History, Theology, Education and Civilization”, the aforementioned documentary was screened and quite favorably reviewed by the public.

The incidental music was composed by the conductor and composer Dr Chrysostomos Stamoulis. The research trips are continued and in 2001 the book of the professor Mr. Karathanassis with the title “Cappadocia, Contribution to the History and the Civilization of the Hellenism in Asia Minor” is published along with the Map of Cappadocia. Later on, in 2002, the Map of Cappadocia is published separately. Thenceforth, the research continues not only on the Near East Cappadocia but within the Greek territory as well, on the places where the Greek refugees from Cappadocia were installed after the populations exchange in 1924.

It is here in Greece that we discovered the Soul of Cappadocia, its Living Monuments, an invaluable laographic wealth which we are treasuring and classifying, assisted by the Cappadocian Associations, a wealth which helps us create a database out of which our Company draws, for the moment, its photo-video material. It is a remarkable fact that, till today, approximately fifty (50) hours of video and a thousand slides have been concentrated covering almost every aspect of Cappadocia, and our work still goes on. Our objective is the improvement and the edition of the videotape with the title “Kappadokias Tychai” (The Fortune of Cappadocia), its edition in DVD and the edition of a small and a larger album about Cappadocia along with the respective CD-rom.

Pontos (Black Sea)

In April 2001, the professor of the History of Modern Hellenism in the Theological School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), Mr. Athanassios E. Karathanassis, scientific adviser of the Company, organizes a research- educational trip, for the students of his Faculty, in Pontos (Black Sea) of Asia Minor, during which we collected a rich photo- video material. Later on followed the small documentary “Travelogue in Pontos (Black Sea)”, preamble of the documentary “History of Pontos” (Black Sea) which will be published after the completion of the study of Cappadocia in the form of videotape, DVD, CD rom along with a photo- album.

Palestine

In August 2002, the Colonel (Rtd) Ioannis L. Papakarmezis was asked to perform the photographing of the “Holy Monastery of Sabbas the Sanctiefied” which is located in the desert of Judea in Palestine. From the visit to this blessed Monastery, which counts 1500 years of existence, resulted the photo- album and the video under edition which bear the same title. A more thorough study of the area comprising the neighboring countries of Syria, Jordan and Egypt will follow.
